FAA Changes Duration of medicals for pilots under 40!

Pilots under the age of 40 that hold a Class I or Class III medical have been given a permanent extension on their medical renewal. For those pilots holding a Class III medical, you need only renew every 60 calendar months: 5 years instead of 3. For pilots holding a Class I medical, you now have 12 calendar months instead of 6. The FAA implemented this change effective July 24.

Gene couldn't be talking about the aerodynamics of an airplane...you can never have too much air! But, as Gene points out, there is one item on your preflight checklist where too much air can be fatal. Read this month's article to find out more!

New Audio Download: Microburst Alert at KSYR

Several microburst alerts culminated into a 55 knot microburst alert as an isolated thunderstorm passed directly over Syracuse-Hancock International Airport. Our download section now includes a clip beginning with a Northwest Airlines aircraft that had just departed SYR negotiating vectors with departure control around thunderstorm cells out to the west. Following this brief exchange are several microburst alerts of increasing intensity being issued by the tower/ground controller. The clip wraps up with an approaching aircraft being informed of the conditions at the airport.

The clip has been edited to remove some of the dead-air. Thanks to Peter Ricciardiello for sending it to us!
